We know that collaboration is a pre-condition for increased productivity and economic growth, and that the most sustainable and inclusive economies have diversity and equality at the heart of policy formulation.
SCDI welcomes a UK Industrial Strategy (UKIS) which delivers against these key priorities. Both the Scottish and UK Government agree with SCDI that public and private sector collaboration will ensure the best UKIS deal for all of Scotland.
The day will kick off a series of work by SCDI and Strategic Partners - Jacobs, Scottish Funding Council, EDF Energy and SQA - to help to secure a good deal for Scotland from the UK Industrial Strategy by:

The event will offer you the opportunity to learn more about SCDI’s key policy priorities and programme of events for the year as well as to learn more on the insights and perspectives from the Royal Society of Edinburgh on their development of a modern enlightenment that will enable Scotland to contribute significantly to addressing the global challenges facing humanity in the 21st Century.
SCDI and the RSE have forged a long standing partnership with the most recent examples evidenced through recent reports ‘Digital Solutions to the Productivity Puzzle ‘ and ‘Smart Citizens, Smart City Regions’ produced in partnership with the Royal Society of Edinburgh, BT Scotland and Scotland IS.

This SCDI Influencers' Dinner in the North East will hear from guest speaker Sir Ian Wood GBE, Chairman, Opportunity North East (ONE)
During discussions, Sir Ian Wood will discuss the work of ONE and how it is working to ensure the opportunities that exist in the North East of Scotland are realised.

Delivered in Partnership with Sue Ryder and hosted at their Dee View Court facility in Aberdeen, this informal SCDI Networking Lunch and 'Behind The Scenes' visit for our members will feature an overview of Sue Ryder and an insight into the workings of Scotland's only purpose built neurological Care Centre by Valerie Maxwell, Centre Director. In addition, Emma Leiper Finlayson, Capital Appeal Manager, will explain more about their ambitious plans to raise £3.9m to extend Dee View Court and care for a further 20 people in the community.

This SCDI Influencers' Dinner in the North East will hear from guest speaker Steve Phimister, Upstream Director UK & Ireland, Shell UK Ltd.
During discussions, Steve Phimister will reflect on his first 7 months as Shell's UK & Ireland Upstream Director and will share his thoughts on the opportunities and the challenges for North Sea Oil & Gas, what the industry is doing to maximise economic recovery of the basin and our part in the emerging Energy Transition.

SCOTTISH BUSINESS: RISING TO INTERNATIONAL CHALLENGES
Building on successful summits held over the past two years, the SCDI International Business Summit 2017 seeks to build on our agenda of working collaboratively to ensure that Scotland fulfils its potential as an economy both globally connected and suitably equipped to transact high-quality goods and services throughout the world.

Awards Dinner: Friday 8 September 2017 - The Drumossie Hotel, Inverness
SCDI's Annual Highlands & Islands Dinner & Business Excellence Awards is the highlight of the Highland business calendar and is always a sell-out, with 350 guests drawn from the Highland business and economic community and across Scotland. This year's celebratory business Awards Dinner took place on Friday 8 September 2017 in Inverness, with the Awards being hosted by popular comedian, actor and satirist Marcus Brigstocke.
More specifically, SCDI's Highlands & Islands Annual Dinner & Business Excellence Awards celebrates excellence and is the premier event for showcasing the cream of the region's businesses.
We're delighted that joining us as Keynote Speaker at this year's Awards Dinner was Deputy First Minister John Swinney MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education & Skills, The Scottish Government.

This is the first of a new 'Scotland's Conversation Series' of business events jointly delivered in partnership by SCDI and STV around the theme of 'Brand Scotland'.
These panel discussions and open floor Q&A - with an audience of senior business representatives - will ultimately examine: 'People & Places', 'Technology & Innovation' and 'Culture & Personality'. Using these interactive Conversations to help understand what our advantages are, we will seek to answer - 'What kind of Scotland do we want to be?'
The focus of this first Business Breakfast on Wednesday 6 September is 'People & Place' and we're delighted that this discussion will be facilitated by STV News Tonight presenter Halla Mohieddeen.

The Glasgow School of Art Graduate Degree Show - Preview Business Breakfast
SCDI are delighted to invite our Members - in conjunction with Glasgow School of Art - to a Business Breakfast Preview event as part of The Glasgow School of Art's Graduate Degree Show 2017, showcasing how current skills & expertise within the School relate to the City's wider economic landscape.
Prof.Tom Inns , Director of The Glasgow School of Art, will provide an overview on the theme of fostering graduate entrepreneurship & exploring creative skills incubation.
Attendees will then have the opportunity to take a Guided Tour of selected exhibits from the Show, highlighting some of this year's most innovative & entrepreneurial projects.

SCDI are delighted to be continuing our series of 'Meet The Politician' engagement sessions in the North East of Scotland, delivered in partnership with Oil & Gas UK.
In this next in a series with senior representatives from the Liberal Democrat, Conservative, Labour & SNP parties, we are delighted that our members will on this occasion have the opportunity to engage with guest speaker Hannah Bardell MP, Westminster Spokesperson on Trade & Investment - Scottish National Party.
SCDI's 'Meet the Politician' events, in partnership with Oil & Gas UK, give our broad-based membership the opportunity to question an influential Politician about current policies and issues that affect them in an informal setting and under the Chatham House rule. They help Politicians to understand the latest concerns of SCDI members and they therefore assist in the policy-making process.

'The Aberdeen City Region Investment Pitch'
In this SCDI Business Seminar, the focus will be on the plans and strategies being developed to attract further investment into the City Region to support expansion and diversification of the existing economy.
Angela Scott, Chief Executive, Aberdeen City Council, will outline why an Investment Plan for the area is being developed and what it is hoped can be achieved by sharpening the messaging around the Region's key strengths. This will lay out the challenges in raising awareness of the many positive assets the area possesses, including a high skill, high tech economic base and excellent transport links with the rest of the UK, but will also reflect on the negative perceptions which exist and efforts being made to counteract these. The session will allow SCDI members to hear about the investment pitches being developed and to input thoughts and ideas into the mix.
An innovative element of the investment strategy was unveiled in November 2016 when the Council announced the successful pricing of index linked bonds for an aggregate principal amount of £370m. As part of this seminar session, an update will be given on the global bond financing strategy being developed by Aberdeen City Council.

Delivered in Partnership with NESTRANS, the transport partnership for Aberdeen City and Shire, and hosted at the Aberdeen Altens Hotel, this SCDI Influencers' Dinner will hear from guest speaker Humza Yousaf MSP, Minister for Transport & Islands, The Scottish Government.
There are many key national and local issues to discuss which fall under the Minister's brief. Principal amongst these, at a strategic level, will be what The Scottish Government believes world-class connectivity will be in the future and how transport and digital connectivity can be better integrated. Locally, key topics are likely to include progress on the AWPR and Aberdeen to Central Belt rail improvements and the need to focus on investment which brings maximum benefit to the North East.
The Minister's brief also includes responsibility for the Islands, both in terms of transport but also cross Government co-ordination of policy.
