BUSINESS EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2014
Keynote Address given by David Grevemberg, Chief Executive, Glasgow 2014 Ltd
Entertainment provided by Rory Bremner
The SCDI Annual Dinner & Business Excellence Awards is the highlight of the Highland business calendar. In 2014, our H&I Awards Dinner was held on Friday 12 September at the Drumossie Hotel, Inverness. Hosted this year by presenter and broadcaster Jamie MacDougall, our after-dinner entertainment on the Awards evening was provided by renowned satirist and impressionist Rory Bremner.
We were delighted that guests at our Awards Dinner also heard from our Keynote Speaker - David Grevemberg, Chief Executive of Glasgow 2014 Ltd - the man who lead the team of thousands who delivered such a successful XX Commonwealth Games in Scotland this summer.
In his address, David highlighted that people are Scotland's greatest asset, and that as an innovative, authentic, sincere and engaging country, Scotland exceeded its own expectations and ambitions in delivering a great XXth Commonwealth Games. It was also the first Games to incorporate a call to action, with £5m being raised for Unicef during the Opening Ceremony to support children throughout the Commonwealth, as viewers were encouraged to 'Put Children First'. They were also the first Games to completely integrate para-sport into the main sporting programme. The Glasgow 2014 Games were not just a friendly Games, but a connected Games, providing a global platform for business. Indeed, organisations in Scotland from across a variety of sectors inclufing energy, manufacturing, food & drink, tourism, education and financial services amongst others have secured business as a result of relationships forged during the Games. David also highlighted that the legacy of these Games will be what Scotland wants it to be, and that everyone is responsible for playing their part in driving that agenda forward.
SCDI's Highlands & Islands Annual Dinner & Business Excellence Awards celebrates excellence and is the premier event for showcasing the achievements of the region's businesses. The Awards Dinner was again a sell-out, with 350 guests drawn from the Highland business and economic community across Scotland.
