Wednesday 31 May 2017 (18.00 - 20.30)
Venue: Millennium Suite - Hampden Park, Glasgow G42 9BA

At this SCDI's Influencers' Dinner, delivered in partnership with Keep Scotland Beautiful and NVT Group, our guest speaker is Derek Robertson, Chief Executive, Keep Scotland Beautiful.

Commercial interests and the natural world are often viewed in isolation - however our stock of natural resources is an essential component of the Scottish economy. Scotland has the opportunity to take a pioneering and world-leading role in the valuation and protection of Natural Capital assets to drive economic growth that is sustainable. In developing the business relationship with natural capital, there is a need to review accounting methods, standards and regulation, as well as fostering reliable data collection methods and long term thinking.

In exploring how businesses and organisations can meet the environmental challenges that face us, Derek will discuss the link between the environment and the economy, industry and local communities. These links can help lay the foundations to grow the circular economy in Scotland and see a more responsible and sustainable approach being taken towards our use of resources.

Derek has been the Chief Executive of Keep Scotland Beautiful since early 2011. With 25+ years of experience of senior management and leadership roles held mainly within the charity sector, his career extends to time spent in both Scotland and England. Derek is also Chairman of the European Litter Prevention Association and President of the Clean Europe Network.
