Awards Dinner: Friday 8 September 2017 - The Drumossie Hotel, Inverness 


SCDI's Annual Highlands & Islands Dinner & Business Excellence Awards is the highlight of the Highland business calendar and is always a sell-out, with 350 guests drawn from the Highland business and economic community and across Scotland. This year's celebratory business Awards Dinner takes place on Friday 8 September 2017 in Inverness, with the Awards being hosted by popular comedian, actor and satirist Marcus Brigstocke.

More specifically, SCDI's Highlands & Islands Annual Dinner & Business Excellence Awards celebrates excellence and is the premier event for showcasing the cream of the region's businesses. 

We're delighted to announce that joining us as Keynote Speaker at this year's Awards Dinner is Deputy First Minister John Swinney MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education & Skills, The Scottish Government.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise Award for Excellence in Research & Innovation

The organisation working in the Highlands & Islands, which best demonstrates the application of Research and/or Innovation to improve their competitiveness - including evidence of significant productivity increases, enhanced business processes and how this has affected future plans for the organisation.

Liberty British Aluminium Award for Outstanding Business Ambassador

On the Awards Dinner evening, we will also be presenting our Young Engineers & Science Clubs (YESC) Regional Club of the Year 2017 trophy.  


We're delighted that popular comedian, actor and satirist Marcus Brigstocke is the host of this year's SCDI Highlands & Islands Business Excellence Awards 2017.

He returns to the region having once worked on an oil rig moored in the Cromarty Firth!

A well-known entertainer, Marcus has worked extensively in stand-up comedy, TV and radio - particularly the comedy slot on BBC Radio 4. 


John Swinney MSP joined the Scottish National Party in 1979, and graduated from Edinburgh University with an MA (Hons) in Politics. He has worked for the Scottish Coal Project, Development Options and Scottish Amicable. Prior to his election as Westminster MP for North Tayside in 1997, he held a number of posts in the SNP at local and national level. In 1999, he became the MSP for Tayside North, remaining as the constituency's MP until standing down from Westminster at the 2001 General Election.

From 1998 - 2000, he served as deputy leader of the SNP, and then as party leader between 2000 - 2004. He was re-elected as an MSP at the 2011 Scottish Parliament election and appointed Cabinet Secretary for Finance & Sustainable Growth. He was appointed as Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Constitution & Economy in November 2014; and Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education & Skills in May 2016.
