Tuesday 15 August 2017 (12noon for 12.30 - 14.30)
Hosted at: G&V Royal Mile Hotel, 1 George IV Bridge, Edinburgh EH1 1AD

This SCDI Influencers' Lunch will hear from guest speaker Liam McKay, Director of Public Affairs, London City Airport.

Delivered in partnership with London City Airport, the only airport actually located in London, and hosted at the boutique G&V Royal Mile Hotel, this discussion will focus on business and tourism at a time of change for the wider economy and the aviation industry.

Later this year, the UK Government will publish a final Airports National Policy Statement, on which the UK Parliament will then vote. The UK Government is also developing a new strategy for UK aviation - with the priorities of championing the sector, promoting consumer interests and developing global trade links with both growing economies and more established trading partners.

The Scottish Parliament has recently passed the Air Departure Tax Bill, on which The Scottish Government will announce the proposed tax bands and tax rate amounts during this autumn.

Brexit will obviously have a major impact on the industry in relation to the future of Open Skies Policy, state aid, and customs amongst the myriad issues to be resolved.

Liam McKay will provide insights from London City Airport's perspective on this evolving aviation industry, exploring themes including the airport capacity issue in the south east of the UK and London City's future plans; the impact and implications of Brexit; and the future of airports, including next generation technology and flying green.
