Frequently Asked Questions About SCDI Membership

1. What does a corporate membership include?
SCDI’s corporate membership aims to be all inclusive and therefore allows your whole organisation to participate in our activities (events, seminars, business information and policy work). The majority of our events can be attended at no extra charge.
2. Can I attend all events once I join?
Yes.  SCDI organises an active and varied programme of over 100 events per annum and members are encouraged to participate.  SCDI is an all Scotland body and members are welcome to attend events in all locations.  Please note that with the exception of the Scottish Council Forum, the Highlands & Islands Annual Dinner & Awards and the Gala Dinner & Awards events are free of charge.
3. How do I keep up to date with what’s going on?
Simply, open your SCDeye e-newsletter and you will find up to date information on policy work, events and other notices. Once you become a member you should receive SCDeye by email on a regular basis. If you are not receiving this then please contact Lee Johnstone lee.johnstone@scdi.org.uk. Lee will be more than happy to ensure you receive this communication on a regular basis.
4. If I want to get more involved with SCDI, who should I speak to?
We advocate making the most of your membership. The Membership Relations Team routinely engage with members through our visit programme. However, should you wish to discuss your membership then please feel free to contact Vince McKeown, George Taylor or Lee Johnstone or our Regional Offices by email to arrange a consultation appointment.
5. Does SCDI have a presence in the Highlands and in Aberdeen?
Yes, we have fully developed networks in Inverness and Aberdeen that are supported by dedicated teams who know and live in each area. We have an active events and a policy lobbying programme that is supported by our North East and Highlands and Islands committees. If you would like to arrange an appointment with our Regional Managers then in the first instance contact Lesley Rhind, Administrative Officer on 01463231878 at our Inverness office and Fiona Downie, Administrative Officer on 01224205868 at our Aberdeen Office.
6. How do I engage with policy issues?
Policy and lobbying on behalf of our members is one of SCDI’s core activities. You can engage with our policy work through a number of ways. To find out what policy issues we are focusing on throughout the year or to view our completed reports, go to SCDeye on our website or www.scdi.org.uk/pi/pi1.html. If you would like to discuss or contribute your view to a specific policy consultation or wish to participate in one of our policy focused events and share your thoughts with others then, contact Iain Duff, Chief Economist and Policy Manager (iain.duff@scdi.org.uk 0131 476 8677) or one of our Regional Offices (for H&I 01463231878 and for Aberdeen 01224205868).
7. If I want to sponsor an event who should I speak to?
Nicola Seeley, is our coordinator for sponsorship. Contact Nicola by email at (nicola.seeley@scdi.org.uk ) or by calling 0141 352 8548.  If you are unable to reach Nicola directly then please contact one of the Membership Relations Team for an initial consultation.
8. Can I invite a guest to an event?
Yes, SCDI is always happy to see others get involved and become aware of what SCDI has to offer. Please note however, some of our events have limited places and therefore priority is given to current members. If you would like to invite a guest then in the first instance please make your request known to our Events Team.
9. What are YEC’s and who should I contact for information?
YEC’s (Young Engineer Clubs) are an educational programme which supports young people to explore and enjoy the world of science, technology and engineering. SCDI in collaboration with local businesses supports schools, colleges and community based initiatives to deliver over 200 clubs across Scotland. For more  information contact Jane Martin or Sandy Moggach by email at (first name.last name@scdi.org.uk) or go to www.yecscotland.co.uk
10. If I move company and wish to stay a member of SCDI what should I do?
People do move from time to time. For ease of transition, please notify Yvonne MacArthur, Business Information Manager and she will update our membership records. To do this she will need to know the following:-
- The date you are likely to move to your new organisation.
- Who your replacement contact will be in your current organisation.
- Where you are moving to along with your new details (address, phone and email etc)
It may be that your new organisation is already in membership. If so, we can let you know. If not, then contact a member of the Membership Relations Team and we will make arrangements to meet with you to discuss a new membership arrangement with you and your new organisation.
