| Representing, Supporting, Consulting |
 |
The independent, broad membership and non-political stance of SCDI means it is uniquely placed to consult and debate, monitor and evaluate, represent and support its members on all matters affecting the Scottish economy. The Scottish Council's annual conference, "The Forum", held every March, helps SCDI members guide and develop the Council's policy work for the following year. |
In response to requests from the Scottish Government, the UK Government, the
European Commission, Parliamentary Committees, Non Departmental Organisations
and members, SCDI makes submissions on issues of public policy. It also submits
views and evidence to these bodies arising from its own research. The choice of
subject material depends on relevance to operating conditions in Scotland, the
relative prospect of whether the policy issue can be influenced and whether it can be
addressed in non party-political terms. |

| Scottish Council Foundation |
 |
The Scottish Council Foundation promotes independent thinking in public policy, focusing on Scottish affairs and on Scotland's relations within the United Kingdom and the European Union. |
|
The Foundation is registered in Scotland as a charitable trust, and is supported by leading companies which accept its principled commitment to independence and objectivity. |
| It was established in June 1997 to contribute towards the better government of Scotland. |
| The Foundation adopts a long term perspective, recognising the challenges ahead as Scotland negotiates the transition from an industrial to a knowledge economy, the opportunities of constitutional change, and the complexities of multi-level governance. The Foundation aims to facilitate strategic conversation among a wide policy community to improve the quality of policy-making and implementation - policy design - in Scotland. |
