LOCAL AUTHORITY SUPPORT FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

In promoting the economic development of their areas, local authorities have to comply with European Union legislation on State Aids. Many local authority business support schemes are carried out in terms of the “General Block Exemption Regulation” (Commission Regulation No 800/2008 of 6th August 2008). Local authorities have notified three general aid schemes, dealing respectively with:

a)
training and employment of disadvantaged/disabled workers

b)   regional/SME investment and employment

c)   consultancy/research and development
