Japan is the UK’s largest export market outside Europe and the USA. It represents 12 percent of world GDP and took £8.0bn of UK goods and services in 2005. The economy is performing well and deregulation over the last 20 years has led to a relatively open market in most sectors.
A long term commitment and strategy are required to become established in Japan, however, success achieved by offering time and patience to this market repays the effort many times over.
