Poland’s entry into the European Union in May 2004 was a milestone in the country’s political and economic transformation. The largest of the new accession countries; it is also the biggest recipient of EU funds, receiving €67.2bn for 2007 – 2013. With economic growth at 5.4% in the first half of 2006, a young and well-educated workforce, and located at the crossroads between Easter and Western Europe, Poland offers Scottish companies a large potential market.
Bilateral trade between Poland and the UK is growing with the latest figures showing £2.4bn of exported goods from the UK to the market. Moreover exports from Scotland have enjoyed a 12% increase from the previous year to stand at £112.6m in 2006. Rapid economic development has created opportunities across a range of sectors including Agribusiness, Airports, Automotives, Construction, Environment, Engineering, ICT, Power, Rail, Water and Water Management. |
