Reimagining the Visitor Economy
5 August 2020, 4pm – 5pm
Our natural and built environments, our towns and cities, our ancient landmarks and modern attractions, our big events and famous festivals – they all attract millions of visitors to Scotland from all over the world every single year.
But the pandemic has seriously disrupted our visitor economy, which last year contributed over 200,000 jobs and was worth over £10.5bn to Scottish GDP. We may have to adapt to significantly lower levels of travel globally for the foreseeable future.
Businesses, organisations and communities are now exploring how to fill the gap, targeting the local ‘staycation’ market and innovating with new digital solutions.
Join this webinar with Secret City Trails to discover how digitalising your visitor experience could:
- Promote your experience to a new global audience
- Develop new and more resilient revenue streams
- Transform the future of the Scottish visitor economy
- Kristina Palovicova, Co-Founder, Secret City Trails
Secret City Trails creates meaningful moments of urban discovery for locals. We do this through Gamified City Discovery Walks; off-the-beaten path routes during which you follow a trail of mysterious directions from one hidden spot to the next, serendipitously discover new places, notice little details in your surroundings – and learn about the city. Our playful discovery walks are made by a community of local creators and available in 51 European cities. Our newest product, location-independent experiences, Wonder Walks, can be enjoyed in any environment, can be urban or in the countryside! On these walks you enjoy exercises and challenges to help you notice the beauty in your surroundings and tune into the present moment. We exist to awaken your curiosity – and as the poet W.B. Yeats beautifully put it, “the world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.”
Kristina comes from an entrepreneurial family with businesses in the travel industry. She worked as tour guide – she led free tours in Bratislava. During her time as a student, Kristina held various roles at hostels and hotels in New York (top rated hotel on TripAdvisor) and Amsterdam (first boutique hostel in town). Her professional career was in consultancy and innovation, for the financial sector before starting Secret City Trails. She used to be a professional athlete, representing Slovakia in alpine skiing.
