Commenting on today’s publication of the Digital Strategy, Clare Reid, Director of Policy & Public Affairs, said:
“Making Scotland a digital nation is a key policy priority for SCDI and its members, and this new strategy will be vital in achieving that objective.
“It reflects several of our suggestions including a set of guiding principles, transforming public services through data and digital, and improving access to support for digital transformation for SMEs.
“We also welcome the commitment to making public data easy to find. As our recently published health and social care data report, Mind the Gap, found, making this data available is only the first step – the next has to be to ensure any barriers to businesses and organisations in accessing and making use of that data are removed.
“SCDI and our partners BT Scotland, ScotlandIS and the RSE have worked together on a series of reports on Scotland’s digital future. Our most recent reports have led directly to the creation of Scotland’s first AI strategy, which will be launched later this month, and we will next be focussing on climate tech. So we welcome the commitment in the digital strategy to use Scotland’s data capabilities to address climate change targets.
“We would like to see the strategy implemented at pace and we look forward to a more detailed action plan which will set out over what timescales the strategy’s objectives will be achieved and what overall investment will be committed to achieving them.”
We welcome the commitment to making public data easy to find. As our health and social care data report, Mind the Gap, found, this is only the first step - the next has to be to ensure any barriers to accessing and making use of that data are removed. Clare Reid, Director of Policy & Public Affairs, SCDI
