Social Enterprise
Events
SCDI has worked in partnership
with the Scottish Social Enterprise Coalition over the last two years to
provide members with the opportunity to learn more about and engage with
the Social Enterprise sector.
Social enterprise is a dynamic
way of doing business that can transform communities and drive profound and
lasting social change. Social
enterprises are businesses with a social purpose and well known examples
include The Eden Project and Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant. Scotland has around 3,000
social enterprises, from multi million pound companies like the Wise Group,
more traditional third sector organisations such as housing associations,
to community-led initiatives in recycling, transport or childcare. Together they make up one of the
country's fastest growing business sectors, employing more than 30,000
people and adding £2bn - £2.5bn to the national economy.
