Details of forthcoming SCDI events are outlined below. Please
circulate this information to colleagues and if you require
any further information on a particular event please email the
relevant person as indicated under each event listing. Please note
that space at several of the events will be limited and it may not be
possible to accommodate all requests.

SCDI ELECTION BRIEFINGS
SCDI, in conjunction with Shell
U.K. Limited, is hosting four events in Edinburgh and Glasgow in advance of
the UK
General Election.
SCDI members will have the
opportunity to engage directly with representatives of the four main
political parties, share views on key issues and gain an insight into
manifesto and policy positions.
These events will attract a
senior audience and will provide the opportunity for high-value engagement
on the political, economic and social issues facing the UK in advance of the
election.
Spaces are limited and will be
allocated on a first come first served basis. Attendance is restricted to one
representative per organisation.

Venue: The Scottish Ballet, Tramway, 25 Albert Drive, Glasgow,

Scottish
Ballet’s state of the art national headquarters at the Tramway
international arts centre houses Scotland’s award winning
national dance company, comprising of 36 international dancers, plus
production and support staff.
As a
large scale touring company, the new building houses the artistic, ballet
staff and dancers, wardrobe, music and technical departments, stage
management, and health & fitness, as well as the Administration,
Marketing, Education and Development teams.
This
is a working building, and therefore not open to the general public, so
this event will offer guests an exclusive opportunity to enjoy a fully
comprehensive tour of Scottish Ballet’s headquarters, led by Chief
Executive/Executive Producer, Cindy Sughrue, and
the chance to learn more about the logistics of getting three annual tours
and 100 performances on the road from Scottish Ballet’s Technical
Manager and Head of Wardrobe.

our next ‘Meet the MEP’ event with Alyn Smith MEP. Representing
the Scottish National Party Alyn was elected to the European Parliament for
the first time in 2004 and re-elected in the 2009 election.
Alyn will set out the
priorities of the European Parliament now that the Lisbon Treaty is in force, discuss the role of the European Parliament from
a Scottish business perspective and the ways in which civic Scotland
can work with the European Parliament towards economic recovery.

Leadership Series”

As part of SCDI’s
ongoing support for business leadership and skills development, we are
launching a new series of engagement and influencing events aimed primarily
at supporting women at all levels of career development. The “Woman
in Leadership” series will focus on sharing the success of
inspirational women who have themselves demonstrated leadership ability and
achievement.
We are delighted that The Right
Honourable Theresa May MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions
and Shadow Minister for Women, will be joining us to launch this programme
and to share her passion, insights and secret of success.
Having worked in the City
before becoming an MP, Theresa has experience of life outside Westminster and understands
the demands that a busy career places on women. Having started her career
at the Bank of England, she went on to hold senior posts at the Association
for Payment Clearing Services (APACS). Theresa believes passionately in
helping more women into politics. She co-founded Women2Win which helps
attract and train women to become Conservative Party candidates for
Parliament. When she was Party Chairman, and latterly as a member of the
Party’s Candidates Committee, Theresa has also pushed for changes to
the Party’s selection procedures to ensure a level playing field for
women.
Please note this is a
chargeable event. Tickets cost £40 plus vat and include a 2 course dinner
& wine.

Showcase

We are organising our inaugural
Highlands and Islands Showcase at the Centre for Health Science in Inverness on Thursday 25 March. The event gives Young
Engineers and Science Clubs from primary and secondary schools in the
Region the opportunity to showcase their activities, share best practice
and compete in a series of exciting, three-minute hands-on technology
challenges set by around 8 companies.
A range of fun, hands-on activities will also be on offer. Over 100 young engineers, teachers and
companies are expected to attend this action-packed event and we hope your
Club will come along for an enjoyable and stimulating day.

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and to outline the opportunities available
through partnership working with the college sector to develop new

destinations. An SCDI mission offers

Our programme of activity will
