Clean Growth Leadership Group

Looking at an economic and environmentally sustainable future for Scotland

Clean Growth Leadership Group kick starts Scotland’s journey to net-zero

SCDI’s Clean Growth Leadership Group has launched its work to develop a route-map to a net-zero Scotland with the release of its Statement of Vision and Principles.

The Leadership Group convenes partner businesses and organisations from the private, public and third sectors to respond to climate change, capitalise on COP26 in Glasgow and identify or develop policy solutions and innovations which can achieve the Scottish Government’s target of net-zero carbon emissions by 2045.

The Leadership Group has been created to answer a fundamental question which faces us in the new decade:

How can we grow the Scottish economy and increase our prosperity, while cutting our emissions and increasing sustainability?

Our Vision for 2045

The Statement of Vision and Principles declares:

“Scotland’s policy response must take a balanced approach between incentives and regulations to support individuals in every community as citizens, consumers and workers, and to support businesses in every sector and of every size as producers, providers and employers, to deliver net zero, manage the transition, improve the environment and benefit from the economic opportunities.

“By striking the balance between the conservation, restoration, and utilisation of Scotland’s rich land and water resources, and by better harnessing its renewable energy potential, we can be home to, and a global leader in, truly sustainable business.

“We can develop net zero technologies and expertise for export around the world, supporting the internationalisation and growth of our own economy while also playing our part as a responsible, outward-looking global citizen in the global effort to achieve global net zero.”

The statement concludes:

“This is what Scotland can be known for in the global economy of the future. Our work as SCDI’s Clean Growth Leadership Group will advance this agenda and develop recommendations to achieve our vision of a clean growth, waste-free, nature-rich future for Scotland.”

Why SCDI?

How to get involved

The Leadership Group will produce a route-map report scheduled for publication in November 2020 which gathers its conclusions and recommendations.

To inform the development of this report, and to inform the national conversation on Scotland’s road to net-zero, we will complete a programme of events and engagements, including:

  • Seminars and events open to all members.
  • Online surveys and social media activity.
  • Focus Groups to gather views and evidence from members.
  • Interviews with key leaders, experts and stakeholders.
  • Regional engagement through our Highlands & Islands, North East and South of Scotland Committees.

Further details will be released shortly. Watch this space.
