2015 H&I AWARDS - SCDI Categories Recognise Business Excellence
Awards Dinner: Friday 11 September 2015 - The Drumossie Hotel, Inverness
A celebratory evening was enjoyed in Inverness on Friday 11 September at our annual Awards Dinner recognising the excellence of Highlands & Islands region businesses and revealing who our #SCDIAwards2015 Winners were!
The SCDI Annual Highlands & Islands Dinner & Business Excellence Awards is the highlight of the Highland business calendar and is always a sell-out, with 350 guests drawn from the Highland business and economic community and across Scotland. More specifically, SCDI's Highlands & Islands Annual Dinner & Business Excellence Awards celebrates excellence and is the premier event for showcasing the cream of the region's businesses. The evening's host was broadcaster Cathy MacDonald.
We were delighted that the keynote address at our 2015 Awards Dinner was given by Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Constitution & Economy and Deputy First Minister John Swinney MSP.
Prior to joining us, Mr Swinney said: "The annual SCDI Highlands & Islands Dinner & Business Excellence Awards is one of the top events in the area's business calendar and acts as an excellent showcase for thriving local businesses. I am pleased to be able to give the keynote address and am looking forward to meeting with friends and colleagues across the region during this important occasion. The Scottish Government shares SCDI's vision of a nation that is ambitious, enterprising and measures success in its ability to maximise its natural assets, potential and people. We have built upon the same themes in Scotland's economic strategy. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate SCDI on its work, both across the Highlands & Islands and nationally, to foster an inclusive and connected economy that is underpinned by sustained investment in our physical and digital infrastructure."
In a surprise award on the evening, the SCDI President's Award 2015 was presented by our chair, Brendan Dick on behalf of Lady Susan Rice CBE to Highlands & Islands Enterprise, in recognition of the contribution that HIE, and its predecessor HIDB have made to Scotland over the past 50 years. From its creation in 1965, the HIDB played a pivotal role in how the region developed, recognising that economic and community wellbeing g hand in hand. Over that period we have seen the declining population of the region halted and the area move from one of high unemployment, to one that is a leading light of the Scottish economy, with HIE at its core.
Our Awards after-Dinner entertainent came from well-known TV, radio and live-show stand-up Ed Byrne - an alumni of the University of Strathclyde, who then founded a small comedy club in Glasgow and has since gone on to sell-out many runs at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, as well as making numerous festival, radio & TV appearances globally.

SCDI were delighted to have received numerous entries from businesses of all sizes and sectors for our SCDI Highlands & Islands Business Excellence Awards 2015 which recognise the achievement of businesses across the Highlands & Islands over the past year.
