SCDI delivered the 'Foundations For The Future' Skills Summit on Mon.29 February 2016 in Dundee, in partnership with Skills Development Scotland.

Monday 29 February 2016, 09.30 for 10.00 - 15.00  (*Waiting List for places in operation)
Venue: Apex City Quay Hotel, 1 W Victoria Dock Rd, Dundee DD1 3JP

The SCDI Skills Summit 2016, held in partnership with Skills Development Scotland, once again launched Scottish Apprenticeship Week - now in its 6th successful year and engaging with 100's of Scottish businesses, training providers, colleges, local authorities and others to celebrate the importance of Modern Apprenticeships and the benefits they bring to the economy.

Building on the recommendations of the refreshed SCDI Blueprint 2015 - 'From Fragile To Agile: A Blueprint For Growth & Prosperity' - the Summit examined two key skills challenges:

  • improving the transition from school to employment; and
  • enabling people to adapt to the changing nature of the economy.

Building Foundations: Foundation Apprenticeships, which allow pupils in S4 to S6 to complete elements of a Modern Apprenticeship while still at school, are being piloted in areas of Scotland and will be part of every schools' offer from 2020, an ambition which SCDI strongly supports. This session looked at the successful pathfinder pilots and the expansion of the programme into more areas and sectors.

Futureproofing our Workforce: Graduate Level Apprenticeships enable MA's to gain the knowledge, skills and experience needed by industry through a mixture of University and work based learning while also being employed and getting paid. In 2016 a graduate apprenticeship in digital skills is to be made available for the first time. This session discussed how economic change and technology are increasing the importance of a culture of lifelong learning and higher level skills, particularly digital, across all sectors.

Please see the menu on the right for details of Skills Summit 2016 Speakers.

We were delighted to have a cross-sector of the economy join us and contribute to our SCDI Skills Summit 2016. There was no charge to attend this event, but please note that places had to be be registered in advance.

SCOTTISH APPRENTICESHIP WEEK 2016: 29 February - 4 March 2016

SCDI is delighted to be working in partnership with Skills Development Scotland to support the delivery of Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2016, highlighting the commitment of businesses who invest in the skills of their workforce and showing that Modern Apprenticeships work for businesses, individuals and the Scottish economy.

We encourage businesses, industry, colleges, local authorities, training providers and those with a shared interest in the success of the Modern Apprenticeships to back the week and encourage many more employers to take on apprentices.

The week sees events and activity across the country, so there's no better time to highlight your role in supporting Apprenticeships!
