H&I
Committee Following a tour of the impressive new
facilities at Eden Court, Inverness, the quarterly
meeting of the H&I Committee was held there on 7

opportunity for committee members to hear from special
guest Tony Strachan, Agent for Scotland, Bank of England
and to provide him with feedback from a wide range of
sectors on how the current economic situation is
affecting the local economy and what action could be
taken. Stuart Black, Director of Planning and
Development, The Highland Council, also gave a
presentation on the draft Nigg Development Masterplan.
The formal public consultation will be coming out
shortly and SCDI will be submitting a response on behalf
of members. gareth.williams@scdi.org.uk

Heathrow
Expansion SCDI and the
other members of the Group of Six sent a letter on the
importance of a third runway at Heathrow to Scotland's
economy to the letters pages of the UK broadsheets ahead
of the Government debate on this issue in Westminster on
11 November. In addition, SCDI has highlighted the
importance of international connections to our members
with overseas operations or interests, and to attracting
foreign direct investment. SCDI also continues to be
part of the alliance working to secure high speed rail
from Scotland to south of the border. www.scdi.org.uk/mg/pr/PR111108.pdf
Energy
Performance of Existing Non-Domestic
Buildings SCDI is considering a response to
the Scottish Government's consultation on Proposals for
Improving the Energy Performance of Existing
Non-Domestic Buildings. It is proposed that new
legislation could require the owners of non-domestic
buildings to obtain an Assessment of the Carbon and
Energy Performance of their building. They could then be
given advice or guidance; or they could be legally
required to develop a programme of improvements to
reduce emissions and improve energy performance, and
thereafter to carry out any necessary improvements. The
consultation can be found here. Contact: gareth.williams@scdi.org.uk 07917 103997. Deadline 25 November.
